One of my cousins sent me a message, after he heard about Grandad, that I think sums it up fairly well, "What makes it slightly easier is the thought of the great age he reached and what a man he was. His greatest achievement was producing a fabulous family and being someone that you all looked upto." That is true, although we all have different memories of Grandad, one thing we all share, is the fact he was and continues to be now a big part of our lives. His family spreads over 4 continents, and includes teachers, musicians, church ministers, nurses, civil servants, actors, amongst others. You were always well dressed, no matter the occasion, and always had a friendly word for people, a gentle man, as well as always being a gentleman. You were a painter/decorator, soldier, post master, trusted and loyal friend, neighbour, churchgoer but above all else, a family man, who was always there with smile and words of encouragement. You always took a keen interest in whatever was happening in our lives. I will always remember, how beautiful your garden looked, watching The Railway Children at your house, seeing how at the dinner table you would play around with the squirty cream, until Granny would say "Oh Arthur". I am thankful and grateful that you were able to be at those memorable milestones in my adult life, whether it was saying goodbye to Dad, getting married, or meeting my children. Now though Grandad that you are no longer physically with us, you will always be in our hearts and memories, but for you now, I hope you have been reunited with your family and friends, who have gone before you.
